We help you make healthcare more
.
Empath Labs combines a unique empathy-driven design methodology with the latest capabilities of robotics, data capture, and game design to help organizations craft more effective, empathetic, and human(e) patient experiences.
Better experiences. Better outcomes.

Sproutel is now Empath Labs!
Back when Sproutel was founded in 2012, our mission was to reach every child with type 1 diabetes through our first product, Jerry the Bear, and create similar products for children with other illnesses. We knew that this wouldn’t happen overnight. So, we built slowly and intentionally with a goal of doing well by doing good.
The Power of Play
“Play is the work of childhood.”
Jean Piaget, the famous child psychologist, captures the essence of curiosity and exploring with these six words.
Mr. Rogers expanded on this a bit, to further clarify: “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.”
Aaron J. Horowitz
Aaron’s superpower is that his passion is infectious - he gets people excited about doing well by doing good. Growing up with human growth hormone deficiency inspired his mission to create technology that puts patients at the center of their own healthcare.
Aaron is a maker at heart; on a daily basis, you can catch him switching easily from building new business partnerships to carving foam prototypes. Perhaps more than anything, Aaron loves being in the ocean - surfing, diving, and splashing around.
Joel B. Schwartz
Joel leads engineering and development, from prototype to mass production. Day to day, he draws from a background in mechanical engineering and clinical research, an endless curiosity, and his drive to improve quality of life for people in their most vulnerable moments.
If we have to choose one, Joel’s superpower is his curiosity and tenacity to wrangle the unknown, the complex, and the abstract into structure and process. Two of his favorite hobbies are fly fishing and cooking.
